Jun 26, I am fixing up my lower unit on an older Evinrude ('75 25HP). Everything is going well except that I'd like to change the O-ring under the shift rod bushing. I have been tapping on it from the bottom a bit but I don't want to bash it up and ruin the O-ring and then I am up the creek. My. This tool removes the shift shaft bushing on the hp OMC'S. Bushing p/n is You are buying only the tool. A brass rod about a foot long by 5/16ths inch can be used to tap the bushing out from the gear side.
Also a gentleman by the name of Frank Robb over at treecut.buzz has made some of the tools for servicing the 50's and 60's OMC motors.
